Vietnamese digital technology enterprises are making significant strides on the global stage by mastering strategic technologies, developing innovative “Made-in-Vietnam” solutions and expanding beyond domestic markets. Amid the accelerating wave of global digital transformation, these firms are seizing opportunities to enhance capabilities and enter new regional and international markets.

At the Vietnam – Asia DX Summit 2025 in Hanoi, experts highlighted how Vietnamese tech companies are evolving from outsourcing to becoming leaders in technology development. Supported by a young, dynamic workforce and government policies, Vietnamese firms are positioning themselves as key players in shaping the digital future.

They focus on strategic technology areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), data science, the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G and 6G networks, blockchain, cybersecurity and semiconductor technologies. These efforts reflect Vietnam’s commitment to building a strong digital economy that can compete on the global stage and create high-value jobs for its workforce while fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Nguyen Van Khoa, Chairman of the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA), noted that as of early 2025, Vietnam has over 54,500 digital technology enterprises. Major firms like Viettel, FPT, VNPT and private-sector companies are now entrusted with developing core technologies addressing national challenges, marking a shift to innovation-driven growth.

Experts observed that this ambition aligns with Vietnam’s strong national push for digital transformation. The share of businesses using digital platforms rose from 30% in 2021 to nearly 70% in 2024. Digital government services now provide over 95% of public services at the highest level. The digital economy accounted for about 16.5% of GDP in 2024, targeting 20% by 2025.

Initiatives such as the National Digital Transformation Programme and Project 06, focusing on population data applications, identification and electronic authentication, have revolutionised state agency operations, fostering digital innovation and greater transparency. These initiatives also improve citizen access to services and support more efficient public administration nationwide, enhancing overall governance effectiveness.

Vu Anh Tu, Chief Technology Officer of FPT Group, emphasised the need to accelerate digital transformation in healthcare, education, and public administration to harness AI’s potential fully. He emphasised promoting public data sharing to support innovation and the need for Vietnamese enterprises to develop their own AI infrastructure to speed research and commercialisation.

Regionally, Stan Singh, Chairman of the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO), highlighted the Asia-Pacific as a digital economic growth driver, with digital transformation spending expected to exceed US$1 trillion in 2025. AI is the top priority, with Vietnam applying AI in healthcare and public services.

Vietnam has become a global digital services hub, with over 1,000 companies serving markets like the US, Japan, Europe and South Korea, generating billions annually and showcasing the country’s expanding influence in the digital economy. This growth is attracting increased foreign investment and strategic partnerships, further fueling innovation and economic resilience across multiple sectors.

International delegates proposed cooperation initiatives to boost Vietnam’s digital transformation. Stan Singh noted green technology as a key cooperation area, urging Vietnamese firms to lead this trend for sustainable development.

Junya Kawamoto, Chairman of Japan’s IT Services Industry Association, expressed Japan’s interest in partnering on AI applications in healthcare, education and production.

Ivy Chang, Deputy Secretary General of Taiwan’s Information Service Industry Association, offered Taiwan’s support in 5G deployment, semiconductor research and applying AI to healthcare, education and smart production.

The summit featured an exhibition with nearly 40 booths from local and international tech firms, reflecting Vietnam’s vibrant digital transformation momentum and growing regional and global influence.

Vietnamese digital technology enterprises are steadily carving out their place on the world map by leveraging strategic technologies, innovation and regional cooperation to drive sustainable growth, global expansion and greater technological self-reliance.
